My name is Eric, and this week i enjoyed being in the Science Academy here at Sturgeon City Institute. What i really liked the most was the many activites we did as a group. The best part of all was meeting new people getting to know each other. We had the four most awesome instructors, and they did a great job. I am looking forward to come again next year!

At the land fill standing infront of a fill it seemed like a very steep drop down but it was really cool. we all decided to get as group picture infront of it though. we went to the land fill on the first day after getting to know eachother and playing games along with collecting bacteria.

This is my first year doing this Biology Institiute and i would have to say that it was very interesting. We learned how to make microscopes out of balloons. We went canoeing to pick up trash on the sides of the river and got the chance to dissect a number of different animals. It was really fun to come back to Sturgeon City and spend another week with the people who i met the week before in the Leadership Institute. Not only will i look forward to coming next year, but i will be happy to be an instructure while I’m in college and maybe even after then. It was a pleasure.

On the first day we all became very close and we knew how to have a good time.

Before this week i had no clue who Namoi was, but throughout the week we have became great friends

This week has been fun in the Biology Sturgeon City. There are a lot of people I don’t know here unlike last week where I basically knew everyone except one or two people, but I got to know them the first day I went! Monday we did icebreakers and split into our different groups in the science institute, i.e. Engineering, General Science (which apperently doesn’t exsist) and Biology. I still don’t know most of the people in it, but it has still been fun. Yesterday we went cannoeing and that was interesting to say the least. We had Kyle (not sure of his last name, but he was an adult rower) in the back, Justin in the middle and I was in the front paddling. The sky was really dark because of a storm coming and smoke from the fire in Pender county, but even with all that it was still too hot and humid for me to stay happy in, because on top of all of that the mosquitoes were EVERYWHERE and I got about ten bites on one arm! No one flipped, and after we got off the cannoe we studied Benthic samples. Today was the disection day! We’ve only done two disections (pig fetus and a crawfish), the pig made me cry a bit but the crawfish was interesting but hard, I didn’t know what was what! We’re going to do a starfish and a shark after I finish typing this, and since I want to be a Marine Biologist I think this will be really helpful and I plan on absorbing as much as I can.

This Picture was taken on Tuesday and it was really fun. This was by far my favorite day at Sturgeon City. We were solving the “murder” of the mayor. My group was awesome and we were the first people to solve the murder.

This was a horrible picture of me. I love it though. It was my group and I was comparing tire tracks to the impression left at the “crime scene”. I think this was the hardest station of the day, yet it was the easiest. Anyway, that was my favortie station.

I am part of the Biology part of the Science Academy. I’ve had some new experiences in this institute that are definitely different than many of the others. We’ve done many fun things relating to biology this week. Whether it be water samples via canoeing or dissecting animals. I’ve definitely learned a few biological things.
